Bonanza @ Filthy MacNastys

Bonanza @ Filthy MacNastys Saturday 2nd July 2011

‘Live acts & good records & that’s it!’

A bi-monthly night of quality live acts and quality records, enough said!… Oh and some pretty wacked-out ’n' weird films screened as a backdrop!

Live acts

Onions:
Ex Atom Seed Simon James has been working as Onions for the past few years and with his now sold-out debut album, 'The Old Straight Track', under his belt he has augmented his line-up. This has allowed him to take his original one-man, guitar-maestro virtuosity way-out of the solo Blues & Folk singer-songwriter realm into a far more atmospheric and ethereal kosmos of cascading Psychedelic otherness.

This new direction is reminiscient of John Fahey if he were fronting classic era Kraftwerk or perhaps John Martyn playing lead to such Krautrock stalwarts as Can, Harmonia or even Neu.
Come along and be mesmerized and marmalized by the virtuosity of his Kosmische maelstrom... Tantalisingly teutonic ta!

+ JD Smith:
A welcome return for our favourite Rockabilly-Punk troubadour and his beguiling blend of twisted Country-Blues and Rock 'n' Roll.

This is honest to goodness stompin' and low-down rockin’ 'n' howlin’ Country-Blues from this slide guitarist.

J.D's debut album 'A Jukebox Riot', recorded by Darrel Higham was hailed by critics and fans alike as well as being picked up by Total Rock's radio show, Bizarre Magazine and also featured on a recent Andrew Weatherall podcast no less.

Tonight at Filthy MacNastys with a big idea, a guitar and a heap of Punk-Rock attitude, J.D. will show us that a solo act can mean f*ck as well as Folk and can still rock again…. and again!
