Howdy Folks, it’s time once again for Bonanza & Son’s Countrier Than Thou night at The Lock Tavern.
This month we have a superb line up with the very talented Ely Plains plus solo act Simon Stanley-Ward… See below for full write up.
We also wanna briefly mention that the Lock Tavern is ten years old in May and we have lined up a very special 'Boy Girl duo night’ but more about that nearer the time. If any of you are knocking about Hackney for a pint on Friday night Bonanza & Son will be djing from 8 til Midnight at The Lauriston, 162 Victoria Park Road, London, E9, If you haven’t been it’s a lovely pub just on the cusp of Victoria Park and they also serve the best pizza Bonanza & Son have tasted outside of Naples!
And finally, just a reminder that we now have a new time-slot for our radio show on ResonanceFM... Every Wednesday tea-time from 4pm and repeated Sundays at 1pm. This Sunday you’ll hear a repeat of a fantastic live session from Lou Rabouhi Kilcawley plus our pick of the best records from ‘Record Store Day’ plus our new feature 'Country-Celluloid‘ and next Wednesday we have a live session from Mr Russell Joslin. Peace, love and respect as always. Bonanza & Son.

Live acts
The Ely Plains:
Inspired by the music and imagery of the dustbowl and depression era North America the Ely Plains are a perfect back drop for our recession-ridden age. This 6 piece, Americana band play alternative Country Rock and have a fine armoury of original material that displays a great knowledge and love of good-time, Americana roots music but with there own strong, English twist. The Ely Plains weave three part harmonies around emotive narratives whilst melding fiddle, banjo, acoustic guitar and harmonica with Country inflected Telecaster runs and a solid rythmn section. A great live band live band whose songs are equally at home in any honky tonk as well as at blissed-out summer festivals. Influences abound from the best of Neil Young, Creedence, Green On Red, The Band, Rolling Stones, Water Boys, Teenage Fanclub etc. www.elyplains.co.uk/#/the-band/4549574467 www.facebook.com/pages/The-Ely-Plains/192587754112206

Bonanza & Son is now in its ninth year of showcasing the best in Country, Blues, Americana and Roots Music as well as djing quality music from Country to Krautrock, Psych’ and underground Rock ’n’ roll.
Countrier Than Thou has successfully moved into it’s fifth year at the Lock Tavern. (The Lock Tavern is ten years old next month, watch out for a ‘Countrier Than Thou SPECIAL' next month ) Way back in the days when Country was still a dirty word round these parts and Americana was thought by some to be simply a typo’ error, not only having consistently sourced excellence in traditional Country, Bonanza has also discovered the most forward thinking Avant-Country, Punk-Blues, Americana and Roots with zero irony just good, old, quality music and very good times.
