Our radio show Wednesday at 4:30pm...

Here’s the brand new ace video from Jonny Fritz… no doubt we’ll play something from his superb new LP ‘Dad Country’ on our radio show tomorrow…
We also have not one but two amazing live acts in session.

Bonanza & Son On ResonanceFM
Wednesday 1st May 2013... 4:30pm

Pete Roe live session:
Pete Roe is an amazing new talent with one of the most interesting albums we’ve heard this year. Cutting his teeth as a studio member of Laura Marling’s band Pete has created an album that is as beautiful to the ears as it is to the eyes housed in an exquisite circular, Neo Art Nouveau hand printed case. It looks like a quirky Pandoras Box and the album has a similar aural effect, subtley drawing you in and consuming you with its siren-like charms. Obviously Pete’s guitar style owes a great debt to British Folk guitarists of the 60’s such as Bert Jansch and John Martyn but this is juxtaposed with an Americana feel and a nod to folks like Neil Young, Paul Simon and Ryan Adams. He also has a foot in the present having been in demand as support to such people as Mumford & sons, The Old Crowe Medicine Show and Edward Sharpe’s Magnetic Zeroes. The album launch will be perfectly placed in the beautiful surroundings of St Mark’s Church in trendy Dalston, London on Thursday 9th May 2013 but we have him first live in the studio today.

Amos Zimmerman live session:
For several years now Amos Zimmerman has been contributing unique songwriting to the independant music scene in Israel, an uncompromising flower of originality in the muddy swamps of musical monotony. With songs perhaps paradoxically characterised by Americana hook-lines and Country Melodies, Zimmerman throws in Blues, Folk and Rock’n’Roll to his bare-boned, honest lyrics and brooding, sensitive melodies.

Ramshackle Union Band live session
For anyone who missed our radio show with Harriet Starling & The Good Honeys live session…
Bonanza & Son on ResonanceFM includes a fantastic live session from Harriet Starling & The Good Honeys on the run up to their gig at 'Countrier Than Thou’.

Gorgeous, shimmering, Bluegrass and Old-Timey Music for the modern age… A potent, morphine-like blend of Bluegrass & Swamp Blues with voices that will melt and break both your heart and the bank! This isn’t just another band it is a 'Wild West Medecine Show' in a Victorian Music Hall with more ways to die than a double cd compilation of Murder Ballads!

+ Our usual featurettes including 'Celluloid Country' where we look at a film which features Americana significantly in its soundtrack and this week we look at William Friedkin’s ’The Hunted’ from 2003...
+ The best of all the latest, up-coming Country & Americana releases plus plenty of dusty, vinyl gems from the past.

It is with sadness that Bonanza & Son has learned that Richard Thomas, head of Programming at ResonanceFM, is leaving.

We wish him well and we are sure that his move will give him the facility to realise the many projects he has, hitherto, selflessly sacrificed in order to tirelessly realise the dreams, hopes and aspirations of so many other artists, journalists, DJs, scientists, musicians, writers, film makers and creatives generally etc etc

Bonanza & Son owes Richard a deep, debt of gratitude and thanks him for such inspired programming. After all who else would have commissioned a Country Music radio show on an avant-garde, arts-based, radio station? This was back in the days when Country was a dirty word and Americana was seen as simply a typo error.

Bonanza & Son would not be in the position it is today at the forefront of a thriving, London Americana scene had it not been for the dedication, belief and vision of Richard Thomas some eight or so years ago.

Forever in his debt,
Bonanza & Son.

@ The Lock Tavern
Thursday 25th April 2013

Live acts:

The Burning Condors:
The Burning Condors have been very busy of late putting the finishing touches to their eagerly awaited debut album as well as radio appearances galore and key showcase gigs. So busy are the band that they will be filming the video for their next single on our beloved Lock Tavern stage so get down to the front and get involved in the action. The Burning Condors second single, a double A-side ‘Knockout’ and ‘Riot in the Streets’, is released on 13th May 2013 through Snakehand Records.
‘Riot in the Streets’ was written in a rehearsal room in Tottenham Hale in 2010, right at the heart of the infamous London riots just as they ignited in the summer of 2011. The track is a live favourite and a prophetic commentary capturing the social unrest and violence that was bubbling under and subsequently exploded to the surface of London's underbelly by the time they had got it down on tape! Scary stuff! The single has received airplay as far afield as U.S. radio.

Their debut single 'Honey Trap' also features a Bonanza & Son hero in the shape of ace harmonica player and frontman extraordinaire JD Wilkes of 'The Legendary Shack Shakers’ and ’The Dirt Daubers’. JD is a massive fan of The Condors and has taken them under his wing giving them support slots, American festival shows and hands-on production help; the stamp of approval indeed from our favourite ‘Kentucky Colonel’.

The Burning Condors have been perfecting their Americana and Rock 'n' Roll 'chops’ so are guaranteed to rip the roof off the Lock Tavern tonight.

+ Harriet Starling & The Good Honeys:
Gorgeous, shimmering, Bluegrass and Old-Timey Music for the modern age… A potent, morphine-like blend of Bluegrass, Swamp Blues and vintage reworkings with voices that will melt and break both your heart and the bank! Intricate guitar and foot stomping mandolin and double bass adds to the Svengali-like seduction and Rasputin-like fever as you rise to your feet dancing, shouting 'God dammit' and singing along. This isn’t just another band playing just another gig it is a 'Wild West Medecine Show' in a Victorian Music Hall with more ways to die than a double cd compilation of Murder Ballads plus the latest Tarantino Revisionist Western put together!
