August Bank Holiday Monday and the week ahead:

Howdy Folks,
We hope this update finds you well and enjoying ya Bank Holiday.

What with the gorgeous weather and it being holiday/birthday season we’ve pretty much taken the month of August off from our events and ResonanceFM radio show but we are back up to speed this week with lots of exciting news and events in the pipeline.

TODAY, Bank Holiday Monday, it is the return of
’The Country Well’ (formerly The Country Soul Sessions) at Nambucca in Holloway. This month we are very excited to have the mighty, stonking Honky-Tonk of The Sonny Walters Band + the exquisite Dylan-esque beauty of Ben Holland and as always a Bonanza & Son Revue DJ Set from start to finish. Doors open at 7pm and it’s only 3 quid to enter.

On Wednesday there’s an album showcase of Jason Isbell’s ‘Southeastern’, (released October 7) at Saint Pancras Old Church and we can assure you the album is an absolute corker. We will be previewing tracks from it at all our dj slots and when we resume broadcasting our radio show next week on Wednesday 4th September. All being well Jason will be performing a live session on our show in October when he comes over for a major European tour proper.

On Thursday it’s time for our long-running monthly event ‘Countrier Than Thou’ at The Lock Tavern. This month sees the return of BBC London favourites The Blind Hearts + an intimate acoustic set from London’s fastest rising talent Sean Taylor on the run up to his full UK tour in support of his brand new LP… Full details below.

Finally on Friday Bonanza & Son will be spinning the best of all our recent vinyl acquisitions plus some vintage classics and off the radar gems for your dancing and drinking pleasure at The Three Crowns on Stoke Newington Church St. N16 from 9 til 2am…

Have a great week folks; peace and love to all.
Bonanza & Son… X

Live acts:

The Blind Hearts:
A very welcome return of our favourite Hillbilly rabble and ‘Infamous 5’ that is The Blind Hearts. A scruffy, young band of guitar pickin, harmony-hollerin, Bourbon-swiggin', Folk-Blues-Country yokels from as far afield as Manchester, London and Japan. They describe their sound as 'Moving Manchester to the Mississippi’ but with an array of international band members they might be more correctly described as Worldcana rather than Americana… A true melting pot of musical influences in the best sense of borrowing from the best.

There are elements of The Byrds and The Flying Burrito Brothers in the mix as well as a hint of The Paisley Underground bands and a healthy slab of the pure Britishness of The Faces and The Stones with The Waterboys as support act perhaps.

They possess a sound that is both down-home and yet slick, highly sophisticated Country-Rock with a 60’s Pop sensibility in the very best sense of the word and dare we say it bringing something new to Country and Americana table.

The boys freely admit that 'everything in their cannon is stolen tunes, rearranged in completely the wrong order and played incorrectly!' The most honest band in London perhaps?

It sounds like it'd never work but these boys sing like angels in cowboy boots that have just been sent crashing through some rickety, Wild-West, saloon doors and out into the street kicking and a' gouging in the mud, the blood and the beer.

Since their last appearance on The Lock Tavern stage they now have under their gun belts two live sessions on Simon Lederman's BBC London radio show, a single produced by The Charlatans' Mark Collins as well as numerous summer festival appearances and also a brand new Americana night of their own in Portobello called ‘No Direction Home’. Men after our own hearts!

+Sean Taylor:
Sean Taylor is one of the hottest new names on the European Blues and Americana scene. His passionate performances combine with songwriting of the highest calibre and are testament to his frequent comparisons with John Martyn, Neil Young and Tom Waits.

Sean is a firm favourite on Bob Harris' BBC Radio show including a live session and numerous plays of his recent singles ‘London’ and ‘Kilburn’. As you may have guessed Taylor stamps his own, personal spin on Americana having been born and bred in London and singing about what he knows and the streets where he grew up.

Boasting three headline UK tours to date, Sean has also supported The Neville Brothers, John Fogerty (Creedence Clearwater Revival), Band of Horses, Southside Johnny & The Asbury Dukes and Eric Bibb.

He also can count Chris Isaak as one of his many fans. We won’t argue with that.

'Formidable and skilled'...Chris Isaak.

'An absolutely superb guitarist ... reminiscent of John Martyn’...

'A Bluesy devotional intensity that rightly draws comparisons to John Martyn"

New art work

Here is the third poster in the series 'Dead Stars, Shining Lights’.

This artwork is for the clubnight ‘Countrier Than Thou’ and the theme centres around some of our favourite but sadly departed Country and Americana artists.

These posters act as source material for a larger series of more elaborate oil paintings.

Bonanza & Son on ResonanceFM

Here is our latest ResonanceFM radio show which was broadcast live earlier today. This Bonanza & Son features a sterling live session from one of London’s finest exponents of Americana, Turnstile Junkpile.

Bonanza & Son On ResonanceFM 31st July 2013: Turnstile Junkpile live session by Bonanza & Son on Mixcloud

We also play the best of all the upcoming Country and Americana releases with brand new tracks from The Cujo Family, Willard Grant Conspiracy, Dylan Walshe, Dan Beaularier and The Hallelujah Trails.

Plus the entire show is dedicated to the late, great J.J. Cale R.I.P. who passed away last Friday 26th July 2013. We honour his memory with some lesser known tracks by a great man.
