Live acts:
James Low:
Whiskey Farmer and good ol’ boy James Low
is the Portland, Oregon based songwriter behind the critically acclaimed album Whiskey Farmer (4 stars in Q, Maverick, and The Telegraph’s Top 10 Roots Albums of 2012) released by The James Low Western Front last year. His music has been compared to Townes Van Zandt and John Prine whilst James himself is more like a cowboy Elvis Costello. Having grown up in Eastern Oregon ranch country, the cowboy comes naturally. With a career spanning two decades James has remained remarkably under the radar in spite of a first album (Mexiquita) considered a cult classic in Pacific Northwest roots music circles and a barn-burning sophomore effort (Blackheart) that is dearly loved by those in the know. With the success of Whiskey Farmer, James’ music is beginning to reach wider audiences. 2012 saw performances on the Pat Kenny show in Ireland, ResonanceFM, House Of Mercy and the BBC as well as scores of club dates in Europe and the US. Come and see James Low rock the Lock Tavern with his own particular medicine show cabinet of Contemporary Western Swing and Cosmic, Country vibes.

Drew Landry:
Firmly rooted in cane fields of Southwest Louisiana & the Hill Country of South Texas Drew’s roughneck Country Blues has the endorsement of some of the genres best with none other than Kris Kristofferson calling Landry's song 'Last Man Standing', “The best I've heard in 30 years”. Landry's first album 'Keep What's Left’ has similarly been described as 'The Equivalent to Lomax’s field recordings for the 21st Century. A Gulf Coast social activist, Drew partnered with Warner Bros to release ‘The BP Blues' to benefit victims of the oil spill in 2010 and also worked with Dr. John to record an oil spill benefit album. His third and most recent album, 'Sharecropper's Whine’, is a Cajun inspired Americana Masterwork and nestled in the Euro Americana chart for several months in 2012.

Latest podcast from Bonanza & Son on ResonanceFM

Bonanza & Son on ResonanceFM have just uploaded our latest radio show which features a live session from former Drive By Trucker Jason Isbell on the run up to his sell-out show at The Garage London.

Jason plays songs from his critically acclaimed new LP ‘SouthEastern' and is joined by fellow musician, songwriter and wife Amanda Shires.

Jason Isbell’s roots in rural Alabama, USA and a young, musical schooling with the hard-rocking, hard-living, Alt-Country and Southern-rocking band Drive-By Truckers have now led to a critically acclaimed solo career.

During those early years, Isbell is the first to admit he was almost invariably intoxicated and his latest, solo album ‘SouthEastern' consummately, candidly and sensitively examines this and his subsequent sobriety as well as simultaneouly taking us on a journey alongside his demons and through his catharsis.

Bonanza & Son resurrect their feature ‘Celluloid Country’ which examines films with Country or Americana in the soundtrack and combine it with a competition to win copies of the ace, new soundtrack to Roberto Rodríguez latest flick 'Machete Kills’…

As always Bonanza & Son play the best of all the upcoming Country & Americana releases including The Tillers, Brian Wright, Jonathan Wilson, Shovels and Rope, John E Vistic, James Low & Drew Landry who will play live on the show this Wednesday.

The show goes out live every Wednesday at 4:30pm (UK Time) on 104.4FM in London or www.resonancefm.com and is repeated Sundays at 11am...

Exciting Bonanza & Son Week ahead...

Howdy Folks,
We hope this update finds you very well.

We’re not sure we can take much more excitement after last week’s absolutely ace interview with Jim Sherraden from The Hatch Print shop in Nashville and Muddy Roots signings The Tillers live session but this week is looking set to be even more exciting so we’ll pop a 70’s tranquilizer and crack on! Oh if you didn’t catch the radio show you can 'listen at your leisure’ at www.mixcloud.com/bonanza-son

•On Wednesday’s ResonanceFM radio show we are very excited to have a live session from Ex Drive By Trucker Jason Isbell.

Jason’s new album ‘SouthEastern' has been critically acclaimed on both sides of the Atlantic and it has not been off the Ponderosa stereo since we received it.

Jason will be playing songs from SouthEastern in the ResonanceFM studio on the run up to his SOLD-OUT gig at The Garage the same evening. He will be joined by fellow musician, songwriter and his wife Amanda Shires.

With roots in rural Alabama and a young, musical schooling in the hard-rocking, hard-living Alt-Country and Southern-rocking band Drive-By Truckers Isbell has gone on to carve a critically acclaimed solo career. During those early years Isbell is the first to admit he was intoxicated more often than not and his latest solo album SouthEastern consummately, candidly and sensitively examines this experience and his subsequent sobriety as well as simultaneouly taking us on a journey through his catharsis.

A match made in ‘ink’ heaven, Jason Isbell has the lines from Bob Dylan's 'Boots of Spanish Leather’ tattooed on his arm, whilst his wife, singer-songwriter Amanda Shires, has lines from Leonard Cohen's ‘Hallelujah' on hers. Tune in to hear how they further communicate this in song.

Bonanza & Son will also be running a competition to win copies of the soundtrack to Roberto Rodriguez latest movie ‘'Machette Kills' as well as playing the best of all the upcoming Country and Americana releases plus retro, vinyl gems & lots more…

Be sure to tune in at 4:30pm (UK time) on 104.4FM in London or www.resonancefm.com

•On Thursday Bonanza & Son will be guest DJs at Laura Veirs show at The Islington Assembly Hall. Veirs latest album 'Warp & Weft' is the most accomplished album of her career and this show is set to be something very special especially as it is taking place in our favourite London venue.

•On Friday Bonanza & Son will be DJing at The Three Crowns on Stoke Newington’s Church Street from 9 til 2am playing records we’ve picked up recently plus some trusty, old, vinyl nuggets. Expect anything from the latest Wooden Shjips album to Dolly Parton and beyond and remember to bring your dancing boots!

•On Saturday it is time for our third, twice yearly, collaborative All Dayer ‘The Country Well Bonanza & Son Revue at Nambucca in Holloway, N7. The fun starts at 2pm til late and we have an amazing line-up including Turnstile Junkpile, Cheeseburger, The Snakeoil Rattlers, Trent Miller, Bob Collum, Boss Caine, Moonshine Shack, The Sonny Walters Band and many more. There will be Bonanza & Son DJs inbetween the bands to get you dancing into the early hours plus free food throughout the day all for just a fiver from the ticket link below or 6 quid on the door…
